The Teal Pumpkin Project!
A few questions to ask your Green Star about today:
What does a teal pumpkin represent at Halloween?
Why did we include both candy and non-food treats in our Halloween bags?
How can we help make Halloween fun and safe for more children in our community?
Today, we continued our October theme of Creating Community by working on the Teal Pumpkin Project, which helps make Halloween more inclusive for children with food allergies and other dietary restrictions.
Our Green Stars painted pumpkins teal, the color used to represent the Teal Pumpkin Project. A teal pumpkin lets trick-or-treaters know that non-food treats are available as an alternative to candy, helping more children enjoy Halloween!
We also put this idea into action by assembling Halloween candy bags for the Newton Food Pantry's kids' bags. We filled them with both candy and non-food goodies so that children with food allergies or dietary restrictions can have options, too. It was a wonderful way to connect our project to a real need in our community and think about how small choices can help everyone feel included.
A huge thank-you to Volante Farms and United Parish of Auburndale for donating the pumpkins for our project. We love partnering with our community to spread kindness!
